Exhibition on Advanced Air Mobility at the THI

Electric flying has the potential to revolutionize aviation. A hybrid exhibition on the topic of infrastructure for urban air mobility in the auditorium of Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences shows exactly how this could work.

From the 14th of May to the 14th of June, the city of Ingolstadt will be presenting the results of the AMI-FlyingIN2Air research project in a hybrid showroom in the THI auditorium. Under the overall management of Airbus, the presented project deals with the future take-off and landing infrastructure for urban air mobility and the integration of urban air mobility into urban infrastructure. A digital vertiport is being developed as a model based on a requirements analysis. As an airport for vertical take-offs and landings of future aircraft, it will be integrated into the intermodal travel chain and iteratively improved based on citizen and user acceptance studies. With a digital twin of such a vertiport, technical developments, design, and acceptance criteria can be investigated, merged and functionality optimized even before the physical implementation.


Visitors to the exhibition can experience a flight with the FeliFly drone simulator or noise modeling in the showroom. Using VR glasses, they can go on a digital tour of the city. They can also listen to contributions from the project partners and express their opinions on the topic of urban air mobility in a survey.


The exhibition is open to all interested parties during THI opening hours. VR experiences and the THI drone simulation are available every Friday between 1 and 5 pm during the exhibition period. In addition, a program of events will take place at the THI on selected days: Renowned experts from Airbus, Fraunhofer, and Bauhaus Luftfahrt will speak about the potential of electric aviation and shed light on how autonomous, AI-supported flight works. The exhibition was jointly conceived and realized by the IFG, the city of Ingolstadt, and the Human-Computer Interaction Group of the THI, headed by Professor Andreas Riener.
