Welcome to the Research and Transfer Center Sustainability Neuburg

The Research and Transfer Center for Sustainability Neuburg (ForTraNN) therefore brings together sustainability activities in the region and brings companies, municipalities, scientists, students and active citizens together in a sustainability network. As a new institute, founded in May 2022, on the THI campus in Neuburg an der Donau, ForTraNN links the region's existing competencies and cooperatively and co-creatively builds up sustainability competencies within it.

In doing so, the institute pursues an approach of inter- and transdisciplinarity. Due to complex, societal problems that are characterised by dynamics and long-term effects, interdisciplinary science is needed to enable interaction between different disciplines. Thanks to this interdisciplinary cooperation, researchers at ForTraNN can understand and reconstruct complex issues in a multidimensional way. Thus, the research results approach the complexity of experienced realities and enable interventions and derivations that are oriented towards the needs of people.

Transdisciplinarity is also needed for research that is close to real life. This can be understood to mean the collaboration of academic and non-academic actors. The assumption here is that not only academic knowledge but also so-called everyday or practical knowledge is of central importance for research that is close to real life.

Within the framework of our transdisciplinary research, we establish participatory research and action-oriented approaches. The goal always remains the same: we want to make our contribution so that the Great Transformation towards a sustainable society is realised in an equitable, ecological and economic way.

The work of ForTraNN is divided into different topic clusters, which are closely linked. At the same time, intensive collaboration is facilitated with the various THI institutes and their specialised knowledge (e.g. in energy InES, mobility: CARISSMA AImotion, AI: AININ, sustainability: inas, futures: Bavarian Foresight Institute) and cooperation is established with national and international research institutions.
