The title of Honorary Senator is awarded by resolution of the THI Senate to individuals who have repeatedly rendered outstanding services to the Technical University and Ingolstadt as a center of science. This applies to former Federal Minister and Minister-President Horst Seehofer in several respects: He has constantly supported the THI in all his political functions since its foundation 30 years ago.

In his welcoming address, THI President Professor Walter Schober emphasized Horst Seehofer's continuous commitment: "The expansion of the Ingolstadt campus and the founding of the Neuburg campus would not have been possible without the decision of the Council of Ministers on 9 January 2018, which Mr Seehofer chaired as Minister President at the time." The Chairman of the Senate, Professor Christian Stummeyer, read out Horst Seehofer's other achievements for THI in his laudatory speech.

Minister of State Markus Blume joined in the tribute: "Congratulations to Horst Seehofer: THI is appointing one of its political founding fathers as an honorary senator - a very special, rare and, above all, well-deserved honor. Horst Seehofer has put his heart and soul, attitude, and tenacity into the THI from the very beginning. His credo has always been: that education is the gateway to life. With his penchant for technology and engineering, he is still passionate about high-tech in his home country today: "A dynamic Honorary Senator for our most dynamic university!"

Horst Seehofer was particularly pleased about the honor: "This fills me with pride. Because it's about my home. The THI is a flagship not only in our city but in the entire region. That's why I've always supported it with great interest and commitment and will continue to do so."

In addition to Minister of State Markus Blume, Horst Seehofer's companions, including Ingolstadt's former Lord Mayor Peter Schnell and Neuburg's Lord Mayor Dr Bernhard Gmehling, took part in the awarding of the honorary senatorship.
