InES employee speaks at the World Climate Conference (COP28) in Dubai

Dr Kedar Mehta from the Institute for New Energy Systems (InES) at THI will be presenting at COP28. The scientist is developing strategies to establish expertise on green energy in developing countries.

From the end of November to mid-December 2023, the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will meet in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for their 28th conference. There, they will attempt to take joint measures to combat the rapidly worsening climate crisis.

Dr Kedar Mehta from the Institute for New Energy Systems at THI will also be speaking at this year's conference. His research aims to drive forward the energy transition in developing countries. While the methods to tackle climate change are available in industrialized countries, developing countries often lack the scientific knowledge for a sustainable energy transition - and thus also face major challenges in connection with climate change. Kedar's research aims to close this gap and covers key areas such as building energy research, improving the energy efficiency of buildings, and integrating renewable energy at the building and community levels. This will be achieved by formulating a novel, interdisciplinary, and open-access model that provides a comprehensive solution for the implementation of a sustainable energy transition in developing countries.

At the Institute for New Energy Systems (InES), five professors, thirty research assistants, and doctoral students work on pioneering technologies in the field of renewable energies as part of applied energy research. The research work of InES is organized within the areas of Industrial Energy Systems, Building Energy Systems, Technology Transfer and International Projects, and Energy Systems Technology. The application-orientated research projects are mainly carried out in cooperation with medium-sized industrial partners, research institutes, and partner universities.
