Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) has joined the sustainability network "Netzwerk Hochschule & Nachhaltigkeit Bayern" (Bavarian University & Sustainability Network). The network, which is funded by the Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst, supports universities throughout Bavaria on their way to greater sustainability. By signing up, the THI commits itself to an overall institutional implementation of sustainability in the fields of research, teaching, operations, governance, transfer and student initiatives.

THI President Prof. Dr. Walter Schober on the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding: "The consistent orientation towards the goal of sustainability is anchored as a central element in our mission statement and is visible in our diverse sustainability activities in teaching, research and organisation, for example the electromobility degree programme, sustainability research at the Institute for New Energy Systems or our student association "Our Future". With the establishment of our new "Sustainable Infrastructure" faculty and the start of the new "Sustainability and Environmental Management" degree programme in the winter semester 21/22 at the Neuburg campus, we are taking another consistent step on our way to becoming a sustainable university. By joining the Bavarian University & Sustainability Network, we expect to gain more innovative ideas and suggestions for the further comprehensive integration of sustainability in all areas of the university and at the same time pass on our previous experience. This is a clear step true to our motto of shaping the future and continuously developing ourselves."

The THI is represented in the network by Prof. Dr. Holger Hoppe, founding professor for the subject area of sustainability and environmental management, and Philipp Hecht, head of Strategy and Quality. The two representatives are looking forward to their new task and want to work together with other Bavarian colleagues to advocate for the implementation of the sustainability goals at Bavarian universities.

Since 2019, 30 Bavarian universities have joined the network. In doing so, they are following the recommendation of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) for the development of a culture of sustainability at universities. More information at https://www.nachhaltigehochschule.de/english/.
