Prof. Dr. Walter Schober, President of Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI), was elected Chairman of Hochschule Bayern e.V., the association of 19 Bavarian universities of applied sciences with 120,000 students and around 3,000 professors. The two-year term of office as chairman begins on 15 March 2020.
Prof. Schober has already been a member of the Board of Management of the Bavarian University of Applied Sciences for the past four years, helping to steer the fate of the university association. The Board of Management represents the interests of the members of the Association of Universities of Applied Sciences vis-à-vis politicians, draws up position papers on the strategic further development of the Universities of Applied Sciences and Bavaria as a location for science and represents the associations of Bavarian universities, such as in the Bavarian Science Forum BayWISS or in the Bavarian Research Alliance BayFOR.
Prof. Dr. Schober thanked the members of Hochschule Bayern e.V. for the confidence they have shown in the coming term of office. "The universities (HAW) have developed excellently in recent years, especially in the field of applied research. The Bavarian Minister-President's High-Tech Agenda opens up further scope for the universities (HAW) to shape their role as innovation drivers in the regions and metropolitan areas".
Bavarian Science Minister Bernd Sibler: "Our universities of applied sciences are an important pillar in Bavaria's high-tech agenda. With Prof. Dr. Schober, the universities have a strong advocate who is aware of their performance and great potential in future-oriented fields such as computer science and AI".
Prof. Schober studied business administration as well as economic and social pedagogy at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, where he also received his doctorate. He looks back on numerous leading positions in industry and science. In 1994 he was founding professor for business administration, accounting and controlling at the THI. Before he became president in 2012, he headed the Faculty of Economics (now THI Business School) as Dean for 14 years and also served as Vice President.
