Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences introduces university-wide access to ChatGPT4

The generative AI tool with additional functions will be available to all THI students free of charge from now on. This was decided by the university management together with the student representatives at a meeting on the 14th of December.

ChatGPT version 3.5 is currently publicly available and free of charge. The significantly more powerful version 4, on the other hand, is subject to a charge. THI is now making this version available to THI students free of charge at its own expense.

"Generative AI tools will significantly change the world of work. We want to prepare our students for this at an early stage. With access to ChatGPT4, we are giving our students free access to cutting-edge technology," emphasizes THI President Professor Walter Schober. Fabian Groß from the THI student council adds: "It is a great opportunity for us students to experience the advances in artificial intelligence in practice and to expand our skills in this field. This experience not only contributes to our academic development but also prepares us for the challenges of the future."

What can the full version do? The familiar chat function has been significantly upgraded. For example, ChatGTP4.0 can store eight times as many words in its "memory" as its predecessor and therefore provide higher-quality answers. There are numerous additional features, for example, a virtual office for conversations with fictitious experts to familiarise yourself with non-specialist areas and ask more specific questions to real contacts. In addition, learning spaces are available that offer suggestions on specific topics - including specific instructions on literature research, tips on time management, or developing learning strategies.

Access via the university from the 25th of December guarantees free use of ChatGPT4 without storing user-related data and is therefore compliant with data protection regulations. By licensing via the university account, THI aims to enable a constructive approach to generative AI and involve all university members in developments in this field.
