Record at the start: 2,500 freshmen at the THI

On October 2nd, THI President Professor Walter Schober welcomed around 2,500 first-semester students to the approximately 80 bachelor's and master's programs at the Ingolstadt and Neuburg campuses. This means that contrary to the nationwide trend, the THI continues to grow to 7,300 students.

The smell of popcorn, excited murmurs, and music: the atmosphere in the auditorium was one of celebration as THI President Professor Walter Schober welcomed 2,500 first-year students to THI - more than ever before.

After Professor Schober opened the semester at 8:30 a.m. on the sustainability campus in Neuburg, he addressed the new students at 10:00 a.m. in Ingolstadt in the THI auditorium, which was filled: "Here at THI, we want to allow you to develop your talents in the best possible way," said Schober. "As one of the most research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Germany, THI offers you a wide range of opportunities during your studies and also afterward. Take advantage of them in your studies and also afterward." With more than 140 partner universities worldwide, the THI is also excellently networked and can optimally support all interested parties in planning a semester abroad, he added.

Afterwards, Dr. Bettina Wiesmann, head of the Career Service and Academic Advising department, provided information about the central services offered by THI. Afterwards, the university chaplain Thomas Schwarz and representatives of the student council introduced themselves. The student associations also presented their diverse offerings and enticed visitors with hot dogs, crêpes and drinks.

Cong Shen, 29, and Geer Xie, 29, impressively demonstrated that the THI has long since developed an international appeal. The two come from Shanghai and will begin the master's program in Automated Driving and Vehicle Safety in the winter semester. "We like Ingolstadt very much. We are happy to study here," emphasized Geer Xie.
