Successful model: More dual students in Bavaria

In the winter semester 23/24, the number of dual students increased by almost five percent. Over 8,800 students in Bavaria have opted for this practice-orientated study model. There are currently 586 dual students enrolled at THI in the fields of engineering, computer science, and business.

The attractiveness of dual study programs for companies and prospective students has steadily increased in recent years. Securing young talent at an early stage is becoming increasingly important for companies both nationwide and in Bavaria. The close integration of theory and practice makes the dual study program a successful instrument for retaining skilled workers in the long term. In addition to the financial support and good career opportunities, practical experience is particularly important for prospective students. They can choose from 3,400 practical work placements throughout Bavaria, which is 400 more than in the previous year. In addition to the increased absolute number of 8,806 dual students, their share has also risen to over 7%. At THI, dual students make up 7.8 percent of all students. The university has more than 90 practice partners this winter semester.

Bavaria's Minister of Science Markus Blume emphasizes: "Right from the start: The dual study program combines the best of both worlds! The close integration of theory and practice makes our graduates sought-after specialists with in-depth professional experience - directly after completing their degree program. We want to expand this offer even further because the dual study program is a perfect stepping stone - and a successful model to combat the shortage of skilled workers!"

A dual study program offers many advantages. "The positive trend in dual study programs shows their added value for everyone involved," says Professor Robert Ott, Academic Director of hochschule dual. "In the future, dual study programs will continue to offer excellent opportunities for students, practice partners, and companies for practical academic training."
