Ars Electronica Festival as test environment for SAFIR

From 4 to 9 September 2019, research assistants from Impulse Project (IP) 1 “Mixed-reality experimental environment for safety-critical functions in highly automated driving” presented a demonstrator at the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz.

The aim of the live demonstrator was to investigate the interaction between vehicles and bicycles in a city scenario. Parallel to this (at a bicycle simulator and a mobile driving simulator), various Augmented Reality (AR) visualisations were tested for user acceptance. SAFIR employees were able to collect a total of more than 100 data sets during the course of the five-day trade fair presentation, and these are currently being evaluated. The data obtained will be used in particular to model cyclists in complex intersection scenarios.
