Students on excursion

On 8 December, 16 students on the "Energy Systems and Renewable Energies" course had the opportunity to go on a specialist excursion to Citrin Solar in Moosburg near Freising with the head of the course, Prof. Bschorer.

Dr Daniel Beckenbauer, a former THI doctoral student at the 'Institute for New Energy Systems', provided information about the company history of Citrin Solar as well as important background information and topics relating to the use of renewable energies. Specialising in solar thermal collectors and hot water storage tanks, the students were able to gain a practical impression of collector and storage tank production on the company premises. Founded in 2022, trinergy GmbH complements Citrin Solar's portfolio with the need for integrated, efficient energy concepts for heat supply, power supply and mobility.

This was followed by a tour of the nearby "Sonnensiedlung" housing estate with its own energy centre (wood chip heating): the semi-detached and terraced houses were built as so-called "solar houses", supplemented by two apartment blocks. All the main buildings, including the roofs, are south-facing so that photovoltaics can be used to generate electrical energy with battery storage for self-consumption. The possibility of car sharing rounds off the innovative concept of the "Sonnensiedlung".

An all-round successful excursion with the opportunity for the students to see the theoretical knowledge on the topics of "Fluid Mechanics" and "Thermodynamics" from the lecture put into practice!
