Students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering were given a very exciting look beyond the lecture theatre during an excursion to TD Rohstoffhandel Ebenhausen GmbH & Co. KG. Here they were able to familiarise themselves with recycling at close quarters. TD's core business is the collection, sorting and recycling of non-ferrous metals such as copper, aluminium, brass, bronze, stainless steel, etc. and all common types of scrap metal. These are processed at the company's own scrap yard so that they can be returned to the raw material cycle. In other words, active recycling.

Mr Bachhuber explained the processes and systems with great enthusiasm. He was joined by Bachelor students studying "Service Life, Sustainability and Corrosion protection" and students from the Master's programme in Materials Engineering. Impressive: the huge piles of scrap and the large pieces of equipment being used. Almost like a big playground for adults with a very serious concern: closing material cycles. For us and for our planet.
