Energy meets technology: Mayor Herbert Nerb visits the Technology Transfer Centre (TTZ)

A flying visit to the Technology Transfer Centre (TTZ) for Unmanned Aerial Systems at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI): Manching's mayor, Herbert Nerb, visited the centre to find out about current research and the dynamic development of the site.

The TTZ, which was made possible by funding from Hightech Agenda Bayern, also owes its rapid establishment to the active support of Markt Manching. It not only pays the rent for the premises, but also creates an environment that actively promotes innovation with the planned technology park in the immediate vicinity.

‘We are seeing a great development here,’ says Mayor Nerb. ‘After just a few months, young talents are researching topics that will help shape our future. As Markt Manching, we are delighted to support this successful project by paying the rent. With the technology park, which will soon be realised after a long struggle, we are creating an optimal innovation ecosystem - with THI, Airbus and other strong partners.’

As a confessed aviation enthusiast, Nerb was particularly interested in the practical applications of drone technology. His own experiences during the flood of the century last year emphasised the great potential of unmanned aerial systems in disaster control.

Dr Christian Lösel, Managing Director of the AImotion Bavaria AI mobility node, presented the mayor with the main areas of research at the site - from intelligent flight control and human-machine interaction to innovative swarm concepts for drones. Professor Gerhard Elsbacher, Head of the TTZ, added insights into current projects and collaborations with companies and research institutions.

‘We would like to thank the market town of Manching and Mayor Nerb for their dedicated support, without which the rapid establishment of the TTZ in this form would not have been possible,’ emphasised THI President Professor Schober. ‘Concrete solutions for the future are being developed here - and in close connection with the region.’

With the TTZ Unmanned Aerial Systems, a centre for applied aviation research has been created in Manching that combines science, business, and community responsibility in an exemplary manner.
