The Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle forms the basis of the university-wide QM system. The QM system works systematically along the cycle at the university, faculty and study course levels. Quality planning, assurance and review instruments are anchored at all levels. External experts are regularly involved via specialised advisory boards. In addition, each faculty has implemented its own subject- and culture-specific instruments for quality assurance (e.g. programme directors' meetings, QM workshops, round tables, etc.). Internal accreditation procedures are used at degree programme level to check whether the quality standards in academic studies and Alumni;Teaching are being met.
THI has been system-accredited since October 2022 and is therefore authorised to carry out the accreditation procedures for its study courses itself.
High quality standards in academic study and teaching are a matter of course for THI. By means of integrated quality instruments, which are already anchored in the study course concept, THI creates strongly application-oriented and practical course content in the study courses for the best possible education of the students.
The quality management system in academic studies and Alumni;Teaching has been continuously developed at THI.
Accreditations
As a state university, THI is obliged to provide evidence of the regular accreditation of its study courses. Accreditation procedures are used to check whether the study courses meet the legal quality requirements. Study courses that have successfully passed the procedure are awarded the "accredited" seal of the German Accreditation Council.
All established THI study courses have received the "accredited" seal of approval or are currently in the process of completing the procedure. The accreditation status of a study course is made public in the Accreditation Council's database of accredited study courses"ELIAS". You can find an overview at degree programme level here.
The Vice President for Studium und Alumni;Teaching is responsible for the quality of teaching at THI. The Quality Management Officer is responsible for the operational coordination of accreditation procedures at THI. In the (academic) faculties, the respective deans of studies are responsible for coordinating the procedures.
THI distinguishes between the FIRST accreditation of new study courses, the RE accreditation of current study courses and the accreditation of a significant change. In the accreditation procedures, it is checked whether the formal and subject-related criteria according to BayStudAkkV are fulfilled. For this purpose, after the application has been submitted and the documents have been checked for completeness by the Vice President for Teaching and Students, the Accreditation Commission - consisting of five university lecturers, one student and one research associate - is convened to carry out the examination and appoint the external, specialised experts for the Advisory Board. The formal criteria are checked by the Quality Management Officer. The advisory boards (university lecturers, representatives of professional practice, representatives of external students) carry out an assessment of all technical and content-related criteria and, if necessary, make recommendations for the further development of the study courses. The assessment of the advisory boards is forwarded to the Accreditation Commission as a proposed resolution, which can only deviate from the assessment of the advisory boards with justification. The Accreditation Commission makes the final accreditation decision (accredited - not accredited, with / without conditions - recommendations) based on the assessment of the Advisory Board. The President then grants or rejects accreditation in agreement with the resolution of the Accreditation Commission.
Student feedback on academic studies and und Alumni;Teaching at THI is systematically recorded through various survey elements. The aim is to establish a constructive dialogue between students and teaching staff on the basis of the relevant data so that targeted measures can be derived and implemented. Students are asked for feedback on their academic studies and und Alumni;Teaching at THI throughout the course of their studies.
The procedures and responsibilities are described in THI's quality management regulations. All evaluations take place exclusively online. In order to guarantee compliance with legal requirements, all evaluations and surveys are subject to data protection checks.
First semester survey
The aim of the first semester survey is to regularly evaluate the introductory phase of studies in order to recognise strengths and weaknesses of the degree programme at an early stage and to improve the transition from school to academic studies as well as the transition to further studies in the event of possible deficits. All first-year undergraduate and postgraduate students are surveyed every two years. The survey is coordinated centrally by the Strategy and Quality Department.
Course evaluation
In the course evaluation, the quality of Studium und Alumni;Teaching is evaluated from the student perspective using the indicators workload, didactics and methodology as well as practical orientation. Every course must be evaluated at the latest when it is held for the first time. Students can also request an evaluation of the lectures at any time. The deans of studies ensure the proper organisation, implementation and documentation of evaluations within their (academic) faculty.
Study programme survey
In addition to university-wide, cross-degree programme and cross-faculty topics (e.g. satisfaction with university-wide offers and services), the study course survey focuses in particular on the further development of the study course. Each Bachelor's cohort is surveyed twice, each Master's cohort once. The faculties coordinate the degree programme survey themselves.
Graduate survey
THI graduates are surveyed every two years. The results provide information about graduates' satisfaction with THI and their academic studies over time and provide information about where graduates remain. The graduate survey is coordinated centrally by the Strategy and Quality Department.

Results
The survey results are discussed with the students, in the faculties and in the university's academic committees. Students can find out about the key findings in the Quality Management Moodle course room . Key results are also published here on the website.
The deans of studies of all faculties prepare an annual teaching report in which the situation of Studium und Alumni;Teaching and the organisation of the study courses are assessed. The aim is to ensure the quality of teaching and academic studies at THI, to recognise potential for improvement and to further develop teaching and academic studies. The data for the teaching report is provided by the central Strategy and Quality Department.
Specialist advisory boards
The advisory boards were established in winter semester 2020/21 in order to provide a formal framework for the involvement of external experts from academia and practice in the (further) development of study courses in accordance with Section 18 (1) of the MRVO.
The Advisory Boards are appointed by the Accreditation Commission after an application for accreditation has been submitted and at the suggestion of the Faculty Councils. The task of the advisory board is to review and assess the subject-related and content-related criteria in accordance with BayStudAkkV. Among other things, the advisory board can propose reforms to the study courses, adjustments to the lecture content, other course structures or new areas of specialisation. The assessment and requirements of the advisory board are then dealt with as a proposed resolution in the accreditation commission. This is also where the final decision regarding accreditation is made. The Accreditation Commission can only deviate from the assessment of the Advisory Board with justification.
The following groups are represented on the advisory board: at least two external university lecturers, one representative of professional practice and one student from a related study course at another university.
The Quality Management Officer is responsible for coordinating the meetings of the advisory board. The advisory board members receive all accreditation-relevant documents for the study course in advance, as well as training documents for the assessment of the subject-related content criteria in accordance with BayStudAkkV.
The university has drawn up an advisory board regulation for the work of the advisory board, which will come into force on 1 January 2023.
