Transfer activities take place in various areas and fields of action. These include teaching, research, entrepreneurship, continuing education, consulting, events, outreach and engagement.
The university makes a central contribution to the transfer of knowledge and technology to society through study projects, internships and final theses in companies. An outstanding platform for knowledge transfer is the Institute for Academic Continuing Education (IAW), where current knowledge is transferred directly to business practice via part-time students.
Numerous events provide platforms for dialogue between experts and interested citizens. We maintain close cooperation with the region's schools and offer numerous formats of knowledge transfer and hands-on activities throughout the year. Mobile laboratories and the science gallery make science and research tangible for civil society. The university actively supports those interested in setting up a business through the Center of Entrepreneurship (CoE).

How can businesses make forward-looking decisions even in times of change and uncertainty? The Future Navigator from the Bavarian Foresight Institute at THI helps small and medium-sized enterprises to identify relevant trends at an early stage, contextualise developments and derive concrete courses of action from them. This free online platform combines scientifically sound futures research with practical tools, making strategic foresight simple, understandable and immediately applicable.
The THI’s digital Science Showroom makes scientific topics accessible in an understandable, interactive and practical way. Virtual laboratories and digital exhibits invite visitors to discover the latest research in the fields of mobility, artificial intelligence, digitalisation, sustainability and future technologies. The platform is aimed at businesses, educational institutions, students and anyone who wishes to actively explore science.

How do different decisions affect energy supply, climate protection and regional self-sufficiency? The THI’s Energy Transition Tool makes the consequences of various energy scenarios transparent and easy to understand. With up-to-date data, new features such as the self-sufficiency and CO₂ calculators, and a user-friendly interface, it also helps businesses to understand the energy transition on a fact-based basis and to help shape it.
Sustainability Coaches
How can sustainability be put into practice within a company? As part of the ‘Mensch in Bewegung II’ project, THI and KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt have developed a training programme for apprentices. The trainee Sustainability Coaches are taught practical knowledge about sustainable practices within organisations. They are also made aware of opportunities for organisational change and empowered to play an active role in shaping sustainability processes within their own workplaces. In this way, young professionals embed sustainable thinking and action within their training institutions across the region.
