Social Engagement

Building bridges between science and society

As a modern and highly innovative university, the Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences (THI) sees itself not only as a centre for teaching and research, but also as an active driving force for dialogue between science and society. The focus is on a vibrant two-way exchange: scientific findings should have an impact on society, whilst at the same time perspectives and practical experience are incorporated into research and teaching. Through a variety of event formats, the university creates spaces for dialogue, discussion and collaborative learning on future-oriented topics such as digitalisation, sustainability and social transformation.

Below is an overview of selected formats and initiatives:

  1. Digital Tuesday

‘Digital Tuesday’ offers concise online talks on current topics from the worlds of academia and professional practice, held at lunchtime on a Tuesday each week. Experts shed light on forward-looking trends such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation and sustainability. Following a short keynote presentation, the virtual space opens up for a direct, informal exchange of experiences with the speakers. This free programme, organised in cooperation with the IFG, is aimed at anyone wishing to further their knowledge in a straightforward and practical way. The series of events was developed as part of the ‘Mensch in Bewegung’ transfer project.

  2. Neuburg Sustainability Talks

How do we want to live, reside and conduct business in the future – and how can we shape our region in a sustainable way? As part of the ‘Neuburg Sustainability Talks’ series of events at the THI’s Neuburg Campus, researchers from the THI will be discussing current challenges in sustainable development and their significance for Neuburg and the region with regional stakeholders and members of the public. The event is open to anyone interested.

  3. THI FUTURELAB – Science for the next generation

The THI FUTURELAB offers school pupils the opportunity to discover the world of applied science. In collaboration with partners from the worlds of research and industry, the THI offers not only short workshops on scientific topics, but also exciting ‘Future Clubs’, where particularly gifted and interested pupils can develop their skills and conduct research under scientific supervision. School classes and youth groups are also very welcome. These free activities spark curiosity, provide insights into research and real-world practice, and encourage participants to get involved.
