STEM programmes at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt

One of THI’s contributions is its mobile laboratories, which were developed as part of the ‘Mensch in Bewegung’ transfer project. These include the Artificial Intelligence Lab and the Driving Experience Lab, which bring the mobility of the future to life. These labs offer practical insights into new technologies and are complemented by a supporting programme of talks and workshops.

In addition, a mobile sustainability trail has been developed to provide school pupils with practical tips on sustainable behaviour in everyday life. Another key initiative from THI is ‘Girls go tech’, which aims specifically to inspire girls to pursue technical careers.

Another STEM component is the THI Future Lab, which aims to inspire young people with innovative technologies and future-oriented topics. The Lab offers interactive workshops, experiments and exciting insights into the THI’s research. Here, future technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, renewable energy and digitalisation are brought to life.

To inspire young people to pursue STEM careers at an early stage and to offer them guidance, the THI relies on strong educational partnerships and school collaborations. These include practical workshops for pupils, professional development for teachers, laboratory visits and discussions with professors on current scientific topics. Furthermore, the THI provides scientific expertise to support seminar papers and project work, and tailors its communications and programmes to the needs of pupils and teachers.

Establishing a sustainable STEM cluster structure

A key objective is to tailor existing programmes to the target group and to create outreach-based, decentralised initiatives in the surrounding districts. The aim is to establish STEM programmes not only within the school context but also as complementary leisure activities, in order to foster a lasting interest in STEM subjects.

In addition to THI’s mobile laboratories, the KU’s STEM laboratory will also be integrated into the cluster as a mobile learning environment. The programme is complemented by workshops and programmes run by brigk, IFG and other partners, which incorporate decentralised learning venues such as museums, research institutes and experience centres.

Through this networked approach, Servus MINT aims to create a sustainable educational landscape that opens up new perspectives for children and young people and strengthens the region’s innovative capacity in the long term.
