Neuburg Sustainability Talks enter the next round: THI invites you to a series of discussions

How do we want to live, live and do business in the future - and how sustainable is our region really? The Neuburg Sustainability Talks at THI's Sustainability Campus Neuburg will once again address these questions in the summer semester of 2026. In the established series of events, scientific perspectives meet experiences from politics, business and society. Together, experts discuss current challenges of sustainable development - and their significance for Neuburg and the region.

Established format: The Neuburg Sustainability Talks address current issues surrounding sustainability (stock image: THI).

The series comprises four public discussion evenings and starts on 21 April. The events will take place on Tuesdays from 6.30 to 8.00 pm and will be moderated by Bernhard Mahler, press spokesman for the city of Neuburg an der Donau.

The event will kick off on the 21st of April with the topic "Start-ups - a path to greater sustainability?". Professor Holger Hoppe (THI) and Mark Guist from the THI Start-up Centre will talk to the founders Quirin Hainzlmeier from Thermovation and Emanuel Jacobowsky from FeldSchau about sustainable business models, experiences from start-up practice, and opportunities for start-ups in the region. Afterwards, the THI Start-up Centre invites you to an open discussion.

On the 28th of April, the event "Trautes Heim, Glück allein? - Living between desire and reality" is on the programme. Current challenges relating to housing, rising costs, and new forms of living will be discussed. Professor Daniela Bergmann (THI), architect
Dr.-Ing. Elisabeth Wieser, Walter Lenk from the Gemeinnützige Bau- und Siedlungsgenossenschaft für den Landkreis Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, and Isfried Fischer, social welfare officer for the city of Ingolstadt, will be taking part in the discussion.

The discussion on the 5th of May is dedicated to "Land use conflict in Neuburg - the example of the second Danube bridge", a topic that has preoccupied the region for years. Professor Thilo Feucht (THI) and Dr Meike Fienitz from the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research will shed light on different perspectives on infrastructure development, nature conservation, and traffic relief. The newly elected mayor of Neuburg, Gerhard Schoder (Alliance 90/The Greens), and city councillors Florian Herold (Free Voters) and Matthias Enghuber (CSU) will also take part in the round table.

The series will conclude on the 19th of May with the event "Are the Alps becoming a danger? Slope movements: Causes, risks, protection and early warning systems". Professor Ludwig Angerer (THI), Dr Christine Frey from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, and Marc Seute from the German Alpine Association Ingolstadt will talk about the causes and risks of landslides as well as possible protective measures and early warning systems in the Alps.

All events will take place in room CN004 on the Sustainability Campus Neuburg (Donauwörther Str. 83B / An der Hochschule 1B, 86633 Neuburg a. d. Donau). Participation is free of charge and possible without registration. All interested parties are cordially invited.
