Title: "Uruguay's Energy Transition: From 99% Renewables to the Next Energy Frontier"

Speaker: Prof Franciele Weschenfelder, Professor at INEEO - Wind Energy Research Group at the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC)

Uruguay has become an international reference for integrating renewable energy into its electricity matrix. Over the past two decades, the country has successfully carried out a major energy transition, reaching a point where approximately 99% of its electricity is generated from renewable sources, including wind, hydro, solar, and biomass.

With this first phase largely completed, Uruguay is now entering a new stage of its energy transition, focused on decarbonising transportation and industry and developing a green economy based on green hydrogen and other sustainable fuels.

This session will provide an overview of Uruguay's current energy situation and highlight ongoing research and initiatives to support the next phase of the country's energy transition.
