Profile

This is how I informed myself:

I mainly informed myself via the THI website. I also spoke to friends and acquaintances who have already studied at THI or are still studying. This gave me a realistic impression of everyday life as a student. I also attended the university information day, where I was able to gather impressions and ask questions. That really helped me personally to get a clear picture of the degree programme and the campus.

That's why I chose the degree programme at THI:

I chose the engineering degree programme because it offers exceptional flexibility. In the first two semesters, you go through a general foundation course in which you learn all the important technical basics. This provides a very good overview of the various subject areas and you can better assess where your personal interests and strengths lie. Only then do you choose the specialisation with many compulsory electives. This combination of a broad foundation, clear specialisations and personal freedom of choice convinced me.

My tip for study orientation:

Make sure you take advantage of the university's offers, such as information events, taster lectures and contact with the study ambassadors. You get honest insights there and can ask personal questions. It also helps to talk to students to get a feel for everyday student life. It is also important to keep an open mind and not be put off by individual difficult subjects.

Contents of my degree programme:

On the engineering degree programme, you learn the basics of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science, plus mathematics, physics and materials engineering. You can choose your specialisation later on in the course, which gives you a lot of flexibility.

You should have these character traits for the degree programme:

  • Curiosity and openness to new technical topics
  • Self-organisation and the ability to work in a team
  • Stamina, as some modules are demanding

My favourite thing about the THI:

I particularly like the close connection between theory and practice and the close networking with companies in the region. At the same time, I appreciate the personal atmosphere at the university.

You should have these technical strengths for the degree programme:

  • Basic understanding of maths and physics
  • Logical and analytical thinking
  • Interest in technology and its application

My favourite experience/project during my studies:

A highlight was the 4th semester project, when we were allowed to plan, design and manufacture a flying drone in a small team. At the end, we had a successful test flight.

My insider tips for student life:

Form study groups early on, take part in regulars' tables and attend university parties.
