Bridge between continents: Students from Mexico visit Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI)

A group of students from the Colegio Humboldt in Puebla, Mexico, visited THI. Accompanied by teacher Olaf Poppenhagen, the guests gained exciting insights into research, teaching and campus life - and strengthened a partnership that is becoming increasingly important for both sides.

After a visit to Audi, the programme began with a guided tour of the research centre CARISSMA, which focuses on the vehicle safety of the future. During the subsequent visit to the VR lab, the young people could experience how digital technologies are used at THI - for example, in the immersive CAVE environment, which makes virtual mobility concepts tangible. The event concluded with an exchange with representatives from the Presidential Board, International Office, Career Service and Student Counselling.

"It was a great pleasure for us to welcome the students from Puebla," emphasised Professor Christian Sturm, who accompanied them. "Visits like this not only show how open our university is, but also how interested young people around the world are in technology and innovation."

International contacts such as these are of great strategic relevance for THI. Partnerships with countries such as Mexico are of particular interest, especially given the shortage of skilled labour and the far-reaching transformation of the economy and the world of work. One major advantage is that the education system there has many parallels with the German system, which facilitates cooperation in academic study, research and later in professional life.

And who knows - perhaps some of the young guests will soon be back in Ingolstadt as students.
