We, Faculty I at the THI

Algorithms, data and digital technologies are rapidly transforming our world – at work, in everyday life and in society. As the Faculty of Computer Science, we aim to empower our more than 1,500 students to help shape this transformation and take responsibility for the digital future.

Our Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes combine sound theoretical knowledge with practical application. We ensure the quality of our teaching through dialogue with students, regular evaluations and accreditation processes. To keep our finger on the pulse, we incorporate the latest research findings into our course content and draw on input from the companies with which we collaborate closely. This opens up excellent career opportunities for our graduates.

Our research is application-oriented; we promote exchange between academia and industry, and offer talented students pathways to a PhD. We are part of an international network – whilst remaining firmly rooted in our region.

Whether you’re interested in studying, a partnership or simply in our work:

Welcome to the Faculty of Computer Science – we look forward to connecting with you.

Studying at the Faculty of Computer Science

The Faculty of Computer Science is committed to innovative teaching, forward-looking research and practice-oriented training. Students acquire skills in modern IT technologies and develop solutions to the challenges of digital transformation, ranging from artificial intelligence and cloud applications to digital business processes and user experience design.

Laboratories of the Faculty of Computer Science

Autonomous Vehicles / Mobile Robotics Laboratory (C107)

The laboratory was established back in 2002 to equip students with the skills required for the growth market in autonomous mobile systems, which was already being predicted at that time. It is used 80 per cent for teaching and 20 per cent for applied research. In terms of teaching, selected concepts for programming autonomous mobile robots are implemented and evaluated as part of laboratory practicals. The practical assignments cover the fields of driver assistance systems, service robotics and production automation.

About the laboratory

Digital Medicine Laboratory (C107)

The Digital Medicine Laboratory is the central hub for all practical sessions and experiments in the field of bioinformatics and medical informatics. It is therefore primarily designed for use by the life sciences degree programmes at THI:

It supports practical training in the various disciplines of (digital) biology and medicine and aims to equip students with skills in the following areas:

  • Integration and analysis of complex biomedical data

  • Personalised medicine

  • Digitalisation of healthcare infrastructure

To the laboratory

Embedded Systems Laboratory (G 209)

Embedded systems have become an integral part of modern life. These systems are also becoming increasingly networked, as can be seen, for example, in areas such as Car2X communication and Industry 4.0. This is giving rise to innovative, cooperative, decentralised applications.

About the laboratory

Laboratory for Aircraft Electronics and Computer Science (G211)

The Aircraft Informatics and Electronics Laboratory offers a wide range of facilities for teaching and research in manned and unmanned aviation. A flight simulator and, more recently, a motor glider – which is to be converted into an electric aircraft – are just a few of the ‘toys’ in our laboratory.

About the laboratory

Virtual Reality and Simulation Laboratory (G006)

In our laboratory, we teach the techniques and methods of virtual reality (VR). These will play an increasingly important role in the future in industrial applications such as design, plant and product planning, simulation and training, as well as in entertainment and gaming.

About the laboratory

Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory (C020)

The hexapod test rig – which is actually a dynamic driving simulator – at Ingolstadt University of Technology is one of the unique and mobile highlights of the facility and forms part of the CARISSMA research centre.

About the laboratory

Computer Networks Laboratory (G 115)

The Computer Networks Laboratory provides the typical components of a high-performance computer network, such as those found in large corporate networks or at service providers. In this environment, students are able to gain initial experience with the functions, as well as the practical set-up and operation, of computer networks (LANs).

About the laboratory

User Experience Design (UXD) Laboratory (G116)

The UXD lab serves primarily as a space for workshops, teaching and various events, such as presentations. The room has a flexible layout and offers space for ‘hands-on’ work, allowing users to create prototypes at workbenches and to demonstrate and test ideas and concepts. In addition, the lab provides the opportunity to carry out usability tests and interviews.

About the lab

  3. Dual degree programme at the Faculty of Computer Science

Dual-study students attend the university as normal during the semester. In addition, they work in a company during the semester breaks, during the work placement semester and, in some cases, during the semester as well, gaining practical experience there and becoming involved in the day-to-day running of the business.
