Business Administration (B. A.)

Professorin mit Studierenden FreiluftvorlesungApplication period for the summer semester 2024: 15 November to 15 January

Who still studies business administration today?

After all, there are so many courses of study that sound much cooler and more exciting....

But it is still true: A degree in business administration is the best way to prepare for your future career. You will gain broad-based management knowledge and practical experience that will prepare you for a wide variety of positions in companies - whether in a young start-up, an NGO or an internationally active corporation. And with the option of choosing study specialisations or combining a stay abroad, for example, you can set your own individual accents.

In this respect: Business graduates are always needed in business. You decide what suits you best!

Structure

1st - 3rd Semester full time studies

The full-time course in business administration comprises a three-semester core study phase and a four-semester specialised study phase. In the first phase (1st – 3rd semester) students learn the basics of business administration such as accounting, human resources, marketing, finance, logistics and information processing. During this period they also have to complete a basic internship of at least 12 weeks. From the fourth semester onwards, students specialise in two specialisations which can be freely selected.

In addition to this there are opportunities to acquire further language skills by taking optional compulsory subjects. The practical semester can be taken in the fifth or sixth semester.

4th - 7th semester full time studies

From fourth to seventh semester, students will take advanced subjects to develop detailed knowledge in retailing, elaborating special skills for managing a retail business. The compulsory internship in retail companies is scheduled for the sixth semester. With completion of the Bachelor’s thesis, the academic degree Bachelor of Arts is awarded, which enables students for either a qualified job entry in the retail industry or a post-graduate master Programme.

1st - 14th semester part time studies

The part-time study programme is especially suitable for students in particular personal situations (e.g. taking care of children or family members, disability, etc.). The programme content is the same as for the full-time bachelor's degree course in Business Administration. However, students have more time so as to be able to organise childcare or care of their relatives more effectively, for example. The course breaks down into two degree phases. The first phase comprises six theory semesters and a basic internship which is completed between semesters. The second phase comprises six theory semesters in which students specialise in two freely selected focus areas, and two practical semesters.

In the part-time study programme, students acquire the academic title of Bachelor of Arts on completion of the final bachelor’s degree assignment. This enables them either to embark on a career or engage in further specialisation by going on to take a master’s degree.

Quick Info

Admission and application

The Business Administration program starts in the winter and summer term. Application via Hochschulstart (DOSV) is not necessary.
The registration for the study program starts on May 2 for the winter semester and on November 15 for the summer semester. Online application is possible via the Primuss applicant portal of THI.

To the Bachelor application.

International students

Anyone with an international university degree/higher education qualification wanting to study at a university in Germany needs a so-called Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (HZB), or higher education entrance qualification. This lets applicants show that their educational background or professional qualification allows them to study in Germany, i.e. they have the necessary higher education entrance qualification to register for a course.

The recognition of the qualification is linked to certain requirements. If the certificate of education is recognised as a higher education entrance qualification in Germany, the international student may apply for all courses (general qualification) or for certain courses (subject-specific qualification). Two to three semesters of study in the home country may be recognised as a higher education entrance qualification in Germany, depending on the country of origin. Dual studies or studies with in-depth practical

The dual studies programme enables a combination of practical training elements in a company with the theoretical education provided by the university. There is a choice of either the joint model (academic study + vocational training) or the degree course with vocational experience (academic study + intense practical phases). There is an obvious advantage to students here: practically oriented academic study generally enables a particularly smooth transition from university to the world of work. What is more, the student usually receives financial remuneration from the company concerned.

The Business Administration course offers both models.

In the joint model, students may start working at the company several months before the start of the first semester, depending on the company concerned. At the start of the course there is an alternation between theory (during the semester) and practical experience (between semesters and during the practical semesters). In order to embark on a dual studies programme, students have to apply to both a company and to THI (be sure to take note of company application deadlines!).

More info on our dual studies-pages, or check dual cooperation partner companies. Even if no partner company is currently active in this degree programme, you are welcome to contact us.
