Application for a place on a Master’s programme

The entry requirements for each Master’s programme are set out in the relevant study and examination regulations (usually in § 3, § 4 or § 5).

You can find the relevant study and examination regulations on the website of our Legal Department.

The relevant examination board will decide on the equivalence of qualifications after reviewing your complete application.

In detail, you should follow these steps:

1. Register on the PRIMUSS applicant portal (link in the tiles above)
2. Complete the questionnaire
3. Add degree programmes
4. Upload documents
5. Submit your application online

It is not necessary to send documents by post.

However, the Ingolstadt University of Technology reserves the right to request officially certified copies of the documents in addition.

Nevertheless, please complete your application form during the application period, upload the required documents and submit it online. If, in the section on prior studies, you indicate ‘to be completed shortly’, we will only request a current transcript of marks by the end of the application period. If you indicate that you are a ‘graduate’, we will request your Bachelor’s degree certificate by the end of the application period.

If, after you have uploaded your transcript and we have approved it, there are any changes to your transcript, please send it to us at bewerbung@thi.de. If we receive it before the admissions process takes place, you will be considered for admission with the amended mark. If the grade change occurs only after the admissions process has been completed, you will have the opportunity to take part in any subsequent admissions rounds with the revised grade.

If you are offered a place and wish to take up your place, you must confirm your acceptance online as normal and enrol online within the deadlines specified in your offer letter. It is important for final enrolment (carried out by THI staff) that you provide us with proof that you graduated from your Bachelor’s programme in the semester immediately preceding the one in which you commence your Master’s degree with us.

If your university needs a little more time to issue your degree certificate, we can go ahead and enrol you permanently using what is known as a ‘certificate of graduation’. You can then submit your degree certificate to us within four weeks of the start of the semester.

Yes, of course – you can view this in the upload section and under ‘Application Progress’ in your PRIMUSS applicant portal. Any changes made by staff at Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences will be displayed there immediately.

No information can be provided regarding the NC (numerus clausus) for the relevant Master’s programme during the application period, as these figures have not yet been finalised at that stage.

The entry requirement for admission to any Master’s programme at Ingolstadt University of Technology is 210 ECTS.

It is still possible to apply with a Bachelor’s degree comprising 180 ECTS; however, evidence must be provided to make up for the missing 30 ECTS by the end of the application period at the latest.

We recommend applying at the start of the application period to ensure that, firstly, the THI can review your documents and, secondly, you have the opportunity to submit any additional documents. If you apply towards the end of the application period, we cannot guarantee a prompt review due to the large number of applications received. As a result, applicants are often unable to submit additional documents by the end of the application period and, in some cases, must therefore be excluded from the process.

The missing 30 ECTS credits can be demonstrated by:

work experience outside of your degree programme, which corresponds in duration to the work placement semester of a Bachelor’s degree at THI (i.e. at least 20 weeks full-time) and whose content aligns with the entry requirements of the relevant Master’s programme (e.g. marketing, sales and media: economics- or media-related)

or

evidence of practical or theoretical coursework and examinations completed in addition to the first degree at a domestic or foreign higher education institution, the content and scope of which meet the qualification requirements of the relevant Master’s programme (e.g. marketing, sales and media: economics- or media-related).

Note: Please note that the documents relating to professional practical experience or practical or theoretical coursework totalling 30 ECTS credits, undertaken in addition to the first degree, must clearly indicate that these 30 ECTS credits were acquired in addition to the Bachelor’s programme. If the credits were earned after completion of the Bachelor’s degree, no separate certificate is required in addition to the standard evidence such as a reference. If the credits were earned during the Bachelor’s degree, proof must be provided, for example, by a certificate from the university stating that the ECTS credits or work placement were not counted towards the respective Bachelor’s degree. The employment references should clearly state the weekly working hours. If this is not the case, additional supporting documents may also be uploaded (e.g. an extract from the employment contract).

Proof of English language proficiency is required for the following Master’s programmes:

For English-taught degree programmes at Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences, proof of English language proficiency at Level B2 is required. In the ‘General Statutes’ section of the Legal Department’s website, you will find the document ‘Recognised B2 English Tests’, which lists all tests recognised as equivalent.

Proof of German language proficiency is required by the end of the first semester for the following Master’s programmes:

• International Automotive Engineering
• Intelligent Aerial Systems
• Sociotechnical Cybersecurity
• Sustainability Management and Technologies

For some English-taught degree programmes at Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences, proof of German language proficiency at Level A1 is required by the end of the first semester. In the ‘General Statutes’ section of the Legal Affairs Department, you will find the document ‘Recognised German Language Tests A1’, which lists all tests recognised as equivalent.

It is only possible to complete individual modules of a degree programme as part of a modular study programme within the continuing education Master’s/MBA programmes offered by the Campus for Continuing Education (TCW). You can find further information on modular study programmes here.

The application process is as follows:

1. Register here on the THI website via the online application portal
2. Fill in your personal details, information on your previous education and prior studies
3. Add the degree programme in which the desired module is offered
4. Answer ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Do you wish to take only individual modules from this degree programme?’
5. Upload the required documents
6. Submit your application online (it is not necessary to send your application by post)
