Engineering and Management (B. Eng.)

Our Engineering and Management programme addresses students who intend to work for international companies in functions which require both, an engineering background as well as a thorough understanding of management practices.

The programme provides a sound engineering education with modules such as engineering mechanics, material sciences, mechanical design, computer science, mathematics, software development and electrical engineering. Besides, above mentioned job requirements regarding management know-how are met by lectures such as accounting, marketing and controlling. In addition to those competencies, “soft-skills” are trained, e.g. by team projects and student presentations.

The studies also prepare students for international projects and positions. Specific modules such as “intercultural studies”, “selected topics in international management” and a second foreign language are part of the curriculum.
Students gain further international exposure by studying abroad at one of our partner universities. Internships, which are scheduled during the 5th semester, help to gain work experience as well as business contacts which may lead to future employment. Last-but-no-least, lectures are taught in Englisch - the language of international business. While attending lectures taught in the English language, students are encouraged to learn German as their foreign language (courses scheduled during semesters 1, 2 and 3).

You want to learn more about this programme? Our students have prepared a video showcasing all detail. You can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/6tKHMjv74Fg

Quick Info

Admission and application

Application period for the winter semester is May 2nd to July 15th.

Please consider that the online application is only possible in this space of time. Applications that reach the university later than that cannot be taken into consideration.

Please find further information on application for bachelor study courses.

Dual studies or studies with in-depth practical

The dual studies programme enables a combination of practical training elements in a company with the theoretical education provided by the university. There is a choice of either the joint model (academic study + vocational training) or the degree course with vocational experience (academic study + intense practical phases). There is an obvious advantage to students here: practically oriented academic study generally enables a particularly smooth transition from university to the world of work. What is more, the student usually receives financial remuneration from the company concerned.

In the joint model, students may start working at the company several months before the start of the first semester, depending on the company concerned. At the start of the course there is an alternation between theory (during the semester) and practical experience (between semesters and during the practical semesters). In order to embark on a dual studies programme, students have to apply to both a company and to THI (be sure to take note of company application deadlines!). See here for details of partner companies.

More info on our dual studies-pages, or check dual cooperation partner companies. Even if no partner company is currently active in this degree programme, you are welcome to contact us.

Job profiles

Our B.Eng. program in Engineering and Management provides access to a variety of job opportunities, e.g.:

  • International product manager
  • Industrial Engineer, esp. for companies with international production network)
  • Manager international project
  • Assistant to board member
  • Strategic purchasing manager
  • International sales manager, esp. for high-tech products
  • Management consultant
  • Team lead global functions, e.g. purchasing, IT, planning

Internship

The study programme requires a preparatory internship of at least 6 weeks, which has to be completed before the start of the 4th semester (during semester breaks). The preparatory internship is not part of our admission requirements.

Financing

  • No general tuition fees - Student’s union contribution per semester only.

General information on scholarship:

Financing your study programme might be a big challenge for you. On our homepage you find different opportunities of financing your academic studies at our university. Link:

Financial assistance

Please note that financial aid programmes are mostly not open to foreign students. For scholarships for students from abroad you may have a look here:

https://www.daad.de/deutschland/stipendium/datenbank/en/12359-finding-scholarships/
Public funding (BAföG) is only available to Germans and to EU citizens if they have spent a considerable part of their education in Germany. The university awards a scholarship called Deutschlandstipendium once a year which cannot fully cover living expenses. Additionally we have limited funds and support some international students for a maximum of one semester. Please do not actively approach the International Office on scholarships, once a year a call for application automatically reaches all international students.

Third party scholarship:

  • If you are an applicant from abroad, you may qualify for a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD): www.daad.de
  • If you are a German students we recommend to research for suitable scholarships on www.mystipendium.de
  • Please note that we cannot offer any guidance or support concerning scholarship applications.

We recommend that single students budget at least 700-900 EUR per month to meet personal expenses (accommodation, health insurance, stay, books, semester contribution)

International

To prepare for your semester abroad or to learn another foreign language alongside your studies, you can take language courses at THI's own Language Center (Sprachenzentrum). The language courses are taught only by native speakers and offered at different levels. All courses are free of charge for our students. For more information please see https://www.thi.de/studium/sprachenzentrum.

THI does not run any student housing – neither on-campus nor off-campus – and therefore cannot provide you with accommodation. Here you can find more information on finding accommodation: Accomodation in Ingolstadt. Please keep in mind that you'll need 700-900 € per month for accomodation and your personal expenses.

Our International Office is established especially for the international academic programs. The International Office provides an all-round service to help you with all necessary prearrangements for the organization of your study and everyday life in Ingolstadt.

Language skills

  • English: the program is taught entirely in English language (exception: courses of semesters 1 and 2 may also be attended in German). Sufficient language skills are essential to successfully complete the coursework. Note that we do not require English proficiency tests such as TOEFL or IELTS.
  • German: German language skills are not required for admission. However, after the first semester, students have to document German language level A1. The level can be reached by courses which are offered as part of the program during the first semester.

Testimonials

Why did you choose the technical university?

Name: Juan Fierro
Study Semester: 5th Semester
Previous Education: “allgemeines Abitur”, Spain

I wanted to study in an international environment in which cultural diversity is not only learnt in the lectures, but also experienced at first hand. This expectation was instantly exceeded thanks to a class with people from all over the world. In addition, the Engineering and Management program is very flexible to foment and support exchange semesters in form of courses at partner universities or internships.

5th Semester
Abitur

I have chosen Engineering and Management because it provides me with the tools required to succeed in today’s global business marketplace. After providing you with a solid base in both engineering and economic subjects, the program enables you to choose out of a broad variety of electives, which let you specialize in your desired field of interest. It encourages you to go overseas and is designed to give you the necessary flexibility for one or even multiple studies abroad. In my opinion this course program has  helped me to progress both professionally and personally.
