Bridge courses in Mathematics and Physics

It is important to be well prepared when starting any degree programme. Experience shows that not all first-year students have a solid grounding in the core subjects. Sometimes it has been a long time since they left school, or they may not have attended upper secondary school at all; or perhaps their previous results in subjects such as maths or physics were not at the highest level. To minimise teething problems and ensure the best possible conditions for your studies, it is strongly recommended that you assess your own foundational knowledge and refresh it where necessary. This is the aim of the courses held in the weeks leading up to the start of the semester (in September).

In particular, those embarking on a technical degree should critically assess their knowledge of mathematics and physics. Enrolment on the bridging course in mathematics, physics and electrical engineering is strongly recommended if: 

• it has been some time since you left school
• you hold a master craftsman’s certificate or a vocational qualification
• you left the FOS/BOS after Year 12
• your grades have so far been in the middle or lower range. 

However, (very) high-achieving A-level graduates who wish to refresh their knowledge before starting their degree are also welcome. Furthermore, it is possible to join the courses at a later stage, up to the third semester. In principle, the courses are open to all students – regardless of their degree programme.

We strongly advise all holders of a Master’s certificate or vocational qualification who wish to embark on a technical degree to consider further options to supplement their school-based education. Vocational upper secondary schools offer ideal preparation for university study. Other forms of study that can cater more flexibly to students’ specific needs – such as part-time study programmes – are also recommended.

The ‘Brückenkurse Schulwissen’ (school knowledge bridge courses) in mathematics, physics and electrical engineering help students get off to a successful start at university. They do not really cover university-level material, but focus primarily on upper secondary school curriculum, thereby providing a bridge for a smooth transition from school to university. The bridging courses are designed to provide additional support and opportunities for practice; however, they are not intended as tuition sessions for the mathematics lecture or other subjects.

Registration for the courses is handled by vhs Ingolstadt and opens approximately three months before the course starts. Registration is binding and must be completed in good time! (Search for “Brückenkurs”)

Enrolment
conditions: The minimum number of participants is 35; if fewer than this number enrol, the course will not take place. Only students at Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences may take part in the courses.

Winter
semester courses The courses take place in September on the premises of Ingolstadt University of Technology, Esplanade 10, 85049 Ingolstadt. A new feature is that the courses are now available in digital form.

Please enrol as soon as possible after accepting your place at the university, as participation in the bridging course is only possible if you are already enrolled, for insurance reasons.
