Prof. Dr. Laura Bechthold
The ‘Future-Proof Study Courses’ project is developing a scientifically sound framework aimed at systematically assessing, evaluating and further developing the future-proofing of study courses. In the face of constant change driven by digitalisation, Artificial Intelligence, sustainability and demographic shifts, higher education institutions are faced with the challenge of preparing students for a world of work whose demands are constantly evolving.
On the initiative of the University Management, the project run by the Bavarian Foresight Institute, led by Prof. Dr Laura Bechthold and supported by Alexandra Böhm, adopts a systematic foresight approach. By analysing trends and weak signals of change, as well as developing plausible future scenarios, the project examines future requirements in terms of knowledge and skills. Building on this, skills profiles are developed and compared with existing course content and examination formats to highlight the strengths and areas for development within the curricula.
The framework will initially be tested using selected pilot study courses and validated in collaboration with lecturers, students, faculty management and other experts. The aim is to create a practical and transferable tool that supports higher education institutions in the strategic development of their study courses.
