At the first workshop on plasticscampus bayern in Weißenburg, participants explored the fundamentals of sustainability, planetary boundaries and the environmental, social and economic dimensions of sustainable action. The workshops are designed by experts from both universities and are intended to enable trainees to recognise sustainability in their day-to-day work and to develop their own ideas for improvements. Exchange across company and sector boundaries Last year’s inaugural edition of the Sustainability Scouts programme was already a resounding success. Participants were particularly impressed by the opportunity to develop their own ideas for sustainable action. The aim of the further education programme is to raise trainees’ awareness of environmental, social and economic sustainability and to empower them, as Sustainability Scouts, to bring fresh impetus to their workplaces. The participating companies and institutions also benefit from this. Participation is free of charge for them. Another key focus is on cross-sector exchange. Unlike in everyday vocational school life, here the trainees meet young people from various companies and occupational fields. They can share experiences, learn from one another and forge contacts that may endure beyond the further education programme. This creates a network for sustainable action in the region. Further workshops until December The further education programme continues on 13 November 2026 with the Advanced Workshop, which will include the option to explore topics such as climate change, energy or environmental psychology in greater depth. The programme concludes with the Expert Workshop on 4 December 2026, which equips the trainees and candidates to pass on the knowledge they have acquired to others. On 7 December 2026, participants will receive their certificates as ‘Altmühlfranken Sustainability Scouts’. The programme forms part of the ‘Mensch in Bewegung II’ project run by the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) and the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU), and is funded by the Federal Government and the Free State of Bavaria as part of the ‘Innovative University’ initiative. The programme is organised by the Economic Development Agency of the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen District. Press release: Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen District Office.
