Learning spaces for tomorrow: The L²KI teaching/learning kit connects disciplines and people

How can students be prepared in a practical way for the challenges of an international and competitive AI job market? The Teaching/Learning Kit for AI (L²KI) project, led by Prof. Munir Georges and Prof. Ulrich Schlickewei, is being developed at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt with funding from the vbw (Association of Bavarian Business) and the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts. Also involved are Professor Oelker, Professor Huber, and Professor Gröttrup.

The goal is to bring together students and teachers from different disciplines and to make the development of AI skills flexible, practical, and motivating.

The kit comprises didactically well-thought-out modules along selected sections of the AI value chain – from data collection and modeling to application. These elements are jointly designed, continuously developed, and tested in collaborative exchange. The focus is not only on acquiring skills, but also on individual learning in terms of involvement, self-efficacy, and autonomy.

The project has currently created 10 modules, which have reached approximately 100 students across eight courses and supported them in their preparation and skill acquisition. The focus was on supplementing, refreshing, and broadening students' horizons.

More modules will be developed in the future, and even more students will be able to benefit from the opportunities through rollout to additional degree programs.

An applied module outside the curriculum is the Open Research Space. Laboratory tours with opportunities for hands-on experience and lectures for students were held. This allowed teaching topics to be linked to real-world research questions.

In addition, the provision of AI hardware has been tested and is intended to enable and advance learning about real-world AI applications in the future.
