How do driver assistance systems actually intervene in the driving experience? What does driving dynamics feel like, and what happens when you put the theory into practice behind the wheel?
This was the focus of the comprehensive vehicle engineering laboratory course organised by the THI in collaboration with TU Dresden, HTW Dresden and TU Darmstadt at the renowned Lausitzring.
During the practical seminar at THI, students on the Bachelor’s degree programme in Automotive Engineering spent two days studying theory to prepare for the test at the Lausitzring. The focus was on the topics of vehicle dynamics, driver assistance and vehicle safety. On the test track in Kettwitz, the students were then able to experience and apply what they had learnt first-hand in various test scenarios.
The highlight of the event was the support provided by renowned car manufacturers such as BMW, Audi and, to some extent, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz, who supplied vehicles and technical experts.
Prof. Dr Helmer from the THI has already visited the Lausitzring with his students on several occasions. The aim is always the same: to bring theory to life and promote its application in practice. After all, those who have experienced the effects of technical systems for themselves develop a significantly deeper understanding of their development, validation and deployment.
Many thanks to the Chair of Automotive Engineering at TU Dresden, and to all partner institutions and supporters who make this practical programme – unique in Germany – possible!
