Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) will continue the "Lecture Series on Electric Mobility" (Ringvorlesung zur Elektromobilität) in this winter semester, now as Ingolstadt International Lecture Series on Electric Mobility. This series is in close cooperation with the AWARE-Bavarian Center for Applied Research and Technology with Latin America, the Indo-German Collaborative Research Center on Intelligent Transportation Systems and the SENSE BAY - Safe Energy Storages Bavaria Network.
We invited professors from our partner universities in Australia (RMIT, Melbourne), Brazil (UFPR and LACTEC, Curitiba) and India (Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur) to give interesting lectures on electric mobility. In addition, industry lectures from German automotive industry and from THI will be presented.
This lecture series will be a live digital lectures series, which will be streamed to all participating partner universities. Please note the different starting times and days of the lectures, which result from different time zones. All lectures are held in English and via Zoom (you find the links below). The lectures are scheduled for about 45 minutes. A subsequent discussion with the audience will close out the evening.
The auditorium consists of students, industry experts and mobility enthusiasts of all ages. The lectures are meant for the public, so you are very welcome. Please remember to register for the lectures.

The application of Lithium-Ion Battery (LIB) is rapidly evolving from electronics like mobile phones to energy storage systems and electric vehicles. However, LIB is experiencing a significant number of fire and explosion due to various reasons such as mechanical abuse, overcharging, short circuit, and design and manufacturing flaws. Therefore, it is vital to increase the safety of LIB consumers and hence, necessary to enhance the standards to make them more reliable.

Battery ageing is due to physic chemical degradation of it’s components, it is heavily influenced by operational parameters and determines both safety and long term finacial analysys. Battery users, however, aren’t always familiar with electrochemistry and materials engineering.

In this lecture it will be presented methods to estimate and quantify battery degradation by a detailed analysis of its datasheets, operational parameters and sizing. The chemical reactions behind battery degradation will be briefly discussed, to illustrate the processes, but this lecture is mainly intended to electrical engineers, electrical engineering students and related areas.

Lithium-ion batteries are in widespread use for driving the power train of Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles. The state of health (SoH) of these batteries is a very important quantity to be accurately estimated to ensure the safety of the occupants and a long service life. Appropriate modelling of the battery parameters and the degradation mechanism is necessary to obtain a reliable estimation of the SoH. This talk will describe the current state of the art in this area and present some of the experiences of the author’s team in approaching this problem.

The proposed lecture would first present the various dimensions of energy management of Hybrid Electric Vehicles such as traffic, terrain, weather, environmental regulations, cost factors etc. It would then describe the architecture and the algorithms of a computational strategy to solve the problem in real-time leveraging embedded computing platforms, on-board sensors, and vehicle models. Finally, the talk would conclude outlining future developments leveraging wireless networks and cloud computing platforms.
