New at THI: Visiting professor from UFSC (Brazil) in the winter semester 2025/26

We are delighted to welcome Prof. Dr. Gian Berkenbrock as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Computer Science at THI in the winter semester 2025/26.

Prof. Dr. Berkenbrock has been a professor of computer science at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Brazil since 2013. His teaching and research focus on the reliable and systematic development of embedded systems. In his teaching, he focuses on the fundamentals of computer science for the mechatronics and aerospace engineering programmes. Since 2022, he has been concentrating in particular on the modules real-time systems, industrial automation and the fundamentals of systems engineering. He also teaches software architecture, formal verification and embedded software testing in the master's programme at UFSC.

Prof. Dr. Berkenbrock also has a broad research background: his current projects deal with the use of artificial intelligence in software testing, the development of cost-effective hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations, the reliability of embedded software, and trajectory planning for mobile robots with trailer systems.

He has been working with the AWARE team at THI since 2018 – the collaboration began as part of the AIM project. As a visiting professor at the Faculty of Computer Science, he now wants to further deepen this partnership:

‘I am open to new horizons in teaching and research and look forward to further expanding our collaboration.’

Prof. Berkenbrock's stay is funded by the visiting professor programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).  (Link: Funding for international visiting lecturers to teach at German universities – DAAD)

We warmly welcome Prof. Dr. Gian Berkenbrock and look forward to an inspiring exchange in the coming winter semester!
