The lectures at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) have been running again with full attendance since last Monday. After the higher semesters were already taken up at the beginning of October, the Bachelor first semesters have also been on board since Monday. The start of their studies has been delayed by three weeks due to the late Corona Abitur. On Monday, they were welcomed by the President of the THI, Prof. Dr. Walter Schober, via video message and received personally by the course directors. "We are pleased to welcome over 1700 first-year students at the THI this semester," said Schober. "Of course, Corona keeps us busy - but in the mixed operation of digital and present courses, we try to integrate our first semesters into the university family as far as possible through presence.
In order to implement the currently valid hygiene protection guidelines - a distance of 1.5 metres and compulsory use of masks on campus - we rented the parade hall in Klenzepark (see photo). Here, there is enough space for the particularly well attended events, such as lectures from the new course of study "Global Economics and Business Management".
Simon Mayer (18), from Riedenburg, is studying the subject at the THI Business School: "It's really well organised here: First the introductory events in the large rooms with seats and enough distance. You can ask questions right away. And then later the online courses.
Valeria Bobb (18), from Aichach: "This is definitely a better solution. We get to know each other and also the system, which is different from school. It's much easier for us when we can be here at the university.
The other new programmes are the English-language Bachelor's programme "Autonomous Vehicle Engineering" and the Bachelor's programmes "Robotics", "Bio-Electrical Engineering" and "Computational Life Sciences". With the latter two programmes, THI is entering the study segment of health and life sciences. The courses offered convey interdisciplinary specialist skills from the fields of health and life sciences as well as electrical engineering and computer science. In combination, they are unique in Bavaria and are aimed at young people who are interested in both medicine and technology. Julia Franz (24), from Altmannstein: "Computational Life Science is totally exciting. It combines health topics with computer science. It can then be used to help people and has very good future prospects."
