Just in time for the opening of the AWARE Center, Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) and its long-standing strategic partner Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) have again signed a double-degree agreement. The agreement regulates the joint double degree in the International Automotive Engineering course at THI and the Master of Electrical Engineering or alternatively Mechanical Engineering at UFPR. The agreement, which was first signed in 2015, was thus renewed.

The English-language IAE Master is based at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and aims to provide students with in-depth training in the field of vehicle mechatronic systems. Students who qualify for the double degree spend the first semester in their home country and the second and third semesters in the country of the partner university. German and Brazilian students are prepared for current challenges in international automotive development by means of more project-oriented and interdisciplinary examination subjects.

The programme provides structures and funding for research cooperation between professors at THI and UFPR, and students are given the opportunity to gain international experience and deepen the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in Brazil in a THI application. So far, almost 20 graduates have graduated with a double degree from the two partner universities.
The AWARE Center (Bavarian Center for Applied Research and Technology with Latin America) was officially opened in February 2020 and emerged from the THI research network of the same name with the Brazilian universities Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) and Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). In addition to Argentina and Colombia, the network is now being extended to other countries in Latin America and the USA, and will be opened up to other Bavarian universities. In this context, further double degree programs are already being planned.
