In a study project under the direction of Prof. Dr. Marco Di Maio, Professor for Engineering Informatics and Systems Engineering, students of Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) have developed aids for South African children with disabilities.

For the Shonaquip Foundation from Cape Town, which produces aids for children and adults in Africa, THI students developed new concepts and added innovative features to existing aids. In two teams, the students designed two concepts in close consultation with Shonaquip, which added new functionalities to the "Jack Stander" positioning device, an adjustable standing aid for children.

The first team extended the "Stander" with a versatile table, whose storage surface with various recesses can be used for playing or eating. The second team made the standing aid mobile: With the help of a 3D printer, the students developed a device that allows handicapped children to move around in an upright position.

A continuation of the cooperation between THI and Shonaquip in the summer semester 2020 has already been decided.
