Johanna Weidlich, a student at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI), was confirmed in her position as spokesperson for the State Students' Conference (LAK) by the delegates. Together with the two newly elected spokespersons, Torsten Utz from Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Lena Härtl from Bayreuth University, she will continue to represent the interests of Bavarian students.

THI President Prof. Dr. Walter Schober welcomes the commitment of the 23-year-old, who is studying in the Applied Research in Engineering Sciences research master's programme and has also been involved in student representation at THI for a long time. "I am pleased about Ms Weidlich's commitment to the students at the THI as well as Bavaria-wide and congratulate her warmly on her re-election. It is important that all groups of the university family clearly articulate their interests and contribute ideas for the further development of our universities."

One of the main concerns of the State Student Council in recent months has been the handling of Corona at the universities. "We are constantly fighting to make it easier for students to study, even in such crisis semesters," says Johanna Weidlich. The LAK has so far successfully campaigned for, among other things, free testing opportunities and the extension of the standard period of study. "The topic of the pandemic will continue to accompany us in the next semester. The students in Bavaria can continue to rely on us to represent their interests vis-à-vis the State Ministry and other higher education policy groups," said Weidlich.

The central topic of the state student representation this year will be the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act. In a statement last year, the LAK called for more democracy and more sustainability at Bavarian universities. The Higher Education Act is expected to be passed by the cabinet in the spring.
