Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences (THI) successfully hosted this year's ACM Computer Science in Cars Symposium (CSCS) on future challenges for artificial intelligence and security in autonomous vehicles. The symposium was organized by the research group "Security in Mobility" in the CARISSMA Institute of Electric, Connected, and Secure Mobility around Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Joachim Hof in cooperation with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The ACM is the oldest and world's largest professional society for computer science. Prof. Hof, vice president for university extension and special assignments at THI, conducts research in the field of automotive security.

Due to the Corona pandemic, the event could not take place at the university as planned, so the 92 participants from ten countries exchanged ideas online. The researchers and experts discussed the current state of research in artificial intelligence (AI), testing AI, autonomous driving security, and vehicle safety. Keynotes were given by Dr.-Ing. Mathias Dehm, Head of Security & Privacy Research & Governance at Continental AG, Dr.-Ing. Steven Peters, Head of Artificial Intelligence Research at Mercedes-Benz, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tim Fingscheidt, University Professor at Braunschweig University of Technology and Head of the "Signal Processing for Traffic Information Technology" department at the Institute of Communications Engineering.

Prof. Dr. Hof:" I am pleased that we were able to hold the symposium so successfully despite the current restrictions and that, in particular, there was a lively exchange between international researchers and developers from the automotive industry. The increasing hacker attacks on vehicles as well as future security standards such as ISO 21434 ensure that automotive security will be one of the major trends of 2021 alongside eMobility."

The next AMC CSCS Symposium is expected to take place in 2021 at the Ingolstadt University of Technology.
