Prof. Dr. Walter Schober re-elected as Chairman of Hochschule Bayern

The 19 Bavarian universities of applied sciences confirmed Prof. Dr. Walter Schober in office as Chairman of Hochschule Bayern. Prof. Dr. Martin Leitner was elected to the board for a second term as deputy. Dr. Eric Veulliet completes the new board team of the Association of Bavarian Universities of Applied Sciences as a further deputy.

On 16 February, Hochschule Bayern e.V. elected its new board for the next two years at its 123rd general meeting. Hochschule Bayern e.V. represents the interests of the Bavarian universities of applied sciences (HAW). The association communicates the goals and activities of the universities to the Ministry, politicians and the public. Members of Hochschule Bayern e.V. are all Bavarian state and church universities of applied sciences with over 120,000 students, around 3,000 professors and almost 8,000 academic and non-academic staff.

The presidents of the Bavarian universities (HAW) unanimously expressed their confidence in Prof. Dr. Walter Schober. The President of the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt was elected for a second term as President of the Association of Bavarian Universities (HAW). The new term of office begins on 15 March 2022. Prof. Dr. Schober had already helped steer the fortunes of the Association of Higher Education Institutions for the last six years on the Board of Hochschule Bayern e.V.. He sees the implementation of the upcoming Higher Education Innovation Act, which offers many opportunities for the further development of Bavarian universities of applied sciences (HAW) in the international science system in addition to an independent right to award doctorates, as a core task for the future. As his deputy, Prof. Dr. Martin Leitner ensures continuity. The President of the Munich University of Applied Sciences was confirmed as Vice-Chairman with a large majority. Dr. Eric Veulliet was also elected as another Vice-Chairman with a large majority. The President of Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences succeeds the President of Coburg University of Applied Sciences as a new member of the Executive Board. Prof. Dr. Christiane Fritze had served as Vice-Chair of Hochschule Bayern e.V. for the past two years. With her retirement from the office of President of Coburg University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Fritze did not stand for re-election.
