On 19 October Dr. Holger Hoppe was appointed professor for the field of "Sustainability and Environmental Management" (NAUM) by the president of the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI), Prof. Dr. Walter Schober - with effect from 1 December 2020. Hoppe will teach at the new THI campus in Neuburg at the Faculty of Sustainable Infrastructure, which is currently being established.
Hoppe studied Industrial Engineering and Management at the Technical University of Dresden and Dublin City University. From 2003 to 2009 he was a research assistant at the Chair of Environmental Economics at the TU Dresden and temporarily a guest researcher at the University of Virginia. In his dissertation he dealt with the value contribution of a company's environmental performance.
From 2009 to 2012, he was responsible for the sustainability, environmental protection and occupational safety division of SCHOTT Solar AG. During this time he also held the position of a board member of the industry association PV Cycle, which established a Europe-wide take-back system for used solar modules. Currently, Hoppe is Senior Director of Sustainability Management at the KION Group and Linde Material Handling GmbH. There he implemented and manages a comprehensive group-wide sustainability management system. He is also active in various industry associations and standardisation initiatives. Hoppe is the author of specialist and practical contributions.
Commenting on his appointment, Hoppe said: "The relevance of sustainable development has been recognised in society, politics and business. By accepting the founding professorship, I want to make a contribution to giving students, as future decision-makers, the right tools to further the necessary integration of economy, ecology and social issues. At the same time, I see great potential for the THI to become active in the region in the municipal and entrepreneurial environment with expertise and commitment and to support the region in meeting the challenges for more sustainability. This, combined with the opportunity to shape the development of the new location in Neuburg and the new courses of study there, motivates me.
Schober: "The THI is pleased to have won Dr. Hoppe, a proven expert in the so relevant subject area NAUM, as founding professor for the new campus in Neuburg. He is distinguished by his experience in both the entrepreneurial and academic environment".
In the winter semester 2021/22, the Bachelor's programmes "Sustainability and Environmental Management" and "Industrial Engineering and Management in Construction" will begin at the Neuburg Campus.
