A further milestone for the Neuburg Campus of Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) has been reached: the Bavarian State Parliament has given its approval in principle to the purchase of the largest plot of land on the site of the former Lassigny Barracks by the Free State of Bavaria Real Estate Agency (IMBY). This means that the state-owned company, which is responsible among other things for the acquisition and management of the real estate owned by the Free State of Bavaria, can now move the purchase forward.

This major part of the area to be acquired, which covers around 31,000 square metres, is managed by the Federal Institute for Real Estate Tasks (BImA), which is responsible for the real estate management of the federal property. In addition, 4,500 square meters are to be used for student housing.

In addition to the area managed by BImA, the purchase of which has now been approved by the Bavarian State Parliament, further partial areas on the Lassigny site are owned by the city of Neuburg an der Donau (four plots with a total area of 7,815 square metres) and the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen (two plots with a total area of 2,465 square metres). Both the City Council of the City of Neuburg and the District Committee of the District of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen have approved the sale of the plots in principle, no further approval by the Bavarian State Parliament is required. Another small area on the Lassigny site is already owned by the Free State of Bavaria.

Following the acquisition of the land, the next step is now the architectural competition. Around 80 students are already starting on the Neuburg campus in the winter semester 2021/22 as planned. For this purpose, one of the listed buildings on the Lassigny site will be renovated as an interim space and a modular building will be erected by the 2022/23 winter semester. The remaining buildings to be renovated and newly constructed should be ready for gradual occupation from 2025.

For Science Minister Bernd Sibler, this is "a big step towards the Neuburg campus": "The upcoming purchase of the site shows how much we are behind the expansion of the TH Ingolstadt. We can now get going and take the next steps in close cooperation with the building authorities. The Neuburg Campus will become another THI flagship: modern, future-oriented, sustainable. This is in line with our major Bavaria-wide technology offensive, High-Tech Agenda Bayern, through which we are further accelerating important projects such as the Neuburg Campus. I am already looking forward to my first visit to the new campus".

Prof. Dr. Walter Schober, President of the Ingolstadt University of Technology: "We are pleased that nothing now stands in the way of acquiring the land and that we are thus taking a decisive step closer to the Neuburg Campus, which offers a wide range of opportunities for student learning, working and living. We are looking forward to starting our studies next year.

Dr. Bernhard Gmehling, Lord Mayor of the City of Neuburg: "The news that it is now possible to buy and thus develop further is incredibly valuable for Neuburg an der Donau, especially during the difficult corona period. I am very pleased that this milestone on the way to Neuburg as a university town has been achieved. On behalf of the city council and the citizens, I would like to thank all those who have contributed to this important step.

Peter von der Grün, District Administrator of the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen: "This is very good news for the district, too, because the THI Campus will add an important pillar to the educational offerings in the district and enrich them. Therefore, we have set the course for further development with a fundamental decision to sell two plots of land in April. The realization of the THI Campus is now one step closer again."
