With the central event at Flugwerft Schleißheim near Munich, today's Bavarian universities of applied sciences and technical universities commemorated the founding of the first universities of applied sciences in the Free State in 1971. An entertaining review of 50 years of university development in Bavaria awaited the approximately 100 invited guests on site and the live stream audience. But the Bavarian universities also looked to the future. As universities of the future, they position themselves as scientific centres of excellence for teaching, research and transfer - and this at 75 locations in Bavaria by now.

In his address, Minister President Dr. Markus Söder praised the achievements of the universities of applied sciences and technical universities: "Technical progress is the only real option for the future! Research, science and education secure prosperity and jobs." Minister of Science Bernd Sibler emphasised: "With their concept of conducting application-oriented research and teaching in all regions of Bavaria, our universities of applied sciences and universities of technology are engines of innovation and strong partners for the regional economy."

Prof. Dr. Walter Schober, Chairman of Hochschule Bayern and President of Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt, said: "Half a century of universities in Bavaria - in addition to 50 years of success through creative work and innovation, these are also 50 years full of continuous change. The universities have always faced new opportunities and challenges, for example in the strong growth of their students or in taking on tasks in research and transfer. Service-oriented towards the individual and value-oriented towards the economic, ecological and social tasks of our time, the universities are shaping the sustainable development of the Free State of Bavaria."
