Concept study: Cable car for Ingolstadt

A cable car running across the city centre as a way of relieving the traffic situation: this idea was presented to Ingolstadt city council by students on the master’s degree course Automotive & Mobility Management at THI Business School under Prof. Harry Wagner. It was to be approximately six kilometres in length and comprise five stops, starting from the Saturn Arena, passing the castle, running over the grounds of the federal horticulture show – which is to be held in Ingolstadt in 2020 – and on to the Audi plant. The student's concept took into account the current legal situation and manpower requirements as well as wind speeds, noise levels and potential alternative means of transportation. Their funding estimate was EUR 48 million.

Ultimately the Ingolstadt city councillors rejected the project by a majority vote. Nonetheless, the Munich municipal authorities are now examining a comparable project for the Bavarian capital based on the proposals put forward by the THI students.
