Taxation and Consulting (M. A.)

Next application period starting on May 2, 2023

Excellent in-depth coverage of taxation and accounting covers the entire range of national regulations as well as the main points in the international field. This paves the way for a career in tax consultancy and accountancy or a position in the relevant department of a large company.

The master’s degree course in Taxation and Accounting builds on the relevant bachelor's qualification, exploring the areas of taxation and accounting in greater depth.

Combining a sound scientific basis with a practical orientation, the course prepares students for the challenges faced by tax advisors and accountants as well as by those working in the relevant specialist departments of companies.

The master's degree course in Taxation and Accounting particularly qualifies students to take up employment with tax consultancy and accountancy firms as well as in the tax and accounting departments of large companies. Further career development can be achieved by taking the professional examination for tax consultants or accountants or by becoming a head of department or partner in either a national or international context.

Its sound scientific basis and high level of practical orientation ensures students acquire professional training in this field. Special features: The degree course is an important basis in preparing for the tax consultant examination.

A three-day study week provides an attractive framework for acquiring the Master of Arts in three Semesters.

Contents

This master’s degree programme is a full-time course running over three semesters. The master’s dissertation can be written in the second and third semester.

Throughout all three semesters, lectures are held on three consecutive days each week. During the remaining time, students can study the material covered in greater depth on their own or else they have the opportunity to pursue an optional practical activity relating to their studies. This means that during the master’s programme, particularly capable students can already acquire the practical experience they need for admission to take the tax consultant examination.

Due to the modular structure of the degree course as shown, it is possible to start in the winter semester or in the summer semester.

Dual studies or studies with in-depth practical

The dual studies programme enables a combination of practical training elements in a company with the theoretical education provided by the university. There is a choice of either the joint model (academic study + vocational training) or the degree course with vocational experience (academic study + intense practical phases). There is an obvious advantage to students here: practically oriented academic study generally enables a particularly smooth transition from university to the world of work. What is more, the student usually receives financial remuneration from the company concerned.
In the joint model, students may start working at the company several months before the start of the first semester, depending on the company concerned. At the start of the course there is an alternation between theory (during the semester) and practical experience (between semesters and during the practical semesters). In order to embark on a dual studies programme, students have to apply to both a company and to THI (be sure to take note of company application deadlines!).

More info on our dual studies-pages, or check dual cooperation partner companies. Even if no partner company is currently active in this degree programme, you are welcome to contact us.

Cooperation Partner: Steuerfachschule

Can I apply if I gained less than 210 ECTS (generally 180 ECTS) on my first degree?

Yes, in this case you will have to do a so-called post-qualification within the first year of study. Generally speaking you will have to show evidence of 18 weeks of practical experience (previous practical experience is counted) and pass the block week modules “Labour Law” and “Practical Seminar” which form part of the course in International Management.
