The competence field “Production and Automation Engineering” is based on the research work of five professors from the Faculties of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. On behalf of the Tool Production Division of Audi AG, the research work of Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schmidt concentrates on configuration and programming of static robots. Prof. Dr. Johann Schweiger develops in cooperation with Audi AG, Neobotix, Schunk and INOS the IT-concepts for a mobile picking robot. The research area of Prof. Dr. Markus Bregulla, who is now working on Audi AG and Siemens AG projects, covers the control processes in flexible production systems. Prof. Dr. Christoph Strobl investigates the paint mixing procedure in cooperation with Audi AG. The cooperation with Audi AG includes a larger number of projects in the fields of joining technology and driverless transport systems.
The aim of the competence field is to support companies with regional and national production locations with innovative solutions to actual problems in the field of production and automation technology. Most of these solutions reflect the results of seminar papers, development projects or research projects stretching over several years. Furthermore, it is possible to apply for public funding of interdisciplinary projects.
The projects are carried out in the ultra-modern laboratories ofTechnische Hochschule Ingolstadt or at the partner companies. In this respect, the laboratory for mobile robotics is intensively used for the research purposes of the competence field. Its equipment includes nine mobile robots of various size and manipulators. The multi-sensor system of a robot enables a non-track-bound, sensor-guided movement in dynamic factory environments.
The research projects are carried out by qualified graduates of Ingolstadt University as a part of their doctoral studies. The competence field “Production and Automation Engineering” is counting now five Ph.D. students.
