Goals and idea

Vibrations play the central role with regard to the service life of components or their structural behaviour. The following focal points are to be mentioned:

  • Training of students in the field of mechanical and automotive engineering, both in basic subjects such as dynamics and in special disciplines such as test engineering and fatigue strength
  • Experimental and computational determination of service life (determination of component stress, fatigue strength tests / fracture mechanics)
  • Investigation of the vibration behaviour (operational vibration analysis, modal analysis, mobile measurement data acquisition)
  • Simulation of dynamic systems
  • Component optimizations
  • Verification of calculation/simulation models
  • Construction of test facilities up to the road simulator

Laboratory C022

Laboratory equipment and activities

The existing equipment is operated in cooperation with the neighbouring laboratory "Lightweight Design and Car Body Technology" C021.
Servo-hydraulic testing equipment:

  • Hydropulse linear cylinder (from 7 to 630kN)
  • Hydropulse rotating cylinder (2 kNm, +- 50°)
  • Regulation and control unit (multi-channel)
  • Load portal and various load frames
  • Hydraulic supply units
  • Sprung foundation, crane system

Fast tearing machine:      

  • Load frame with hydraulic cylinder (40kN, 20m/s)
  • Regulation and control unit
  • High-speed camera

Electrodynamic shakers:

  • Shakers (from 9N/18kHz to 6kN/3kHz)
  • Regulation and control unit
  • Modal analysis system

Servopneumatic testing device:

  • Servopneumatic test cylinders (0.8 to 5 kN)
  • Regulation and control unit

Electric rotary actuator:

  • Speed controlled asynchronous motor with cyclo gear incl. speed and torque measurement
  • Performance data: 11 kW, 2410 Nm, 73 rpm

Measuring equipment:

  • Strain gauge measurement technology (strain gauge and bridge amplifier) for strain measurement
  • Sensors and measuring amplifiers for measuring forces, torques, pressures, displacements, speeds and accelerations
  • Optical 3D measuring system
