New course of study "Bio-Electrical Engineering" at the THI

Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) will start the new bachelor's degree course in Bio-Electrical Engineering in the winter semester 2020/21.

The seven-semester course in German language provides knowledge in the fields of biology, medicine, health, electrical engineering and information technology. Students learn to develop innovative electronic devices and IT applications that serve to improve health and prevent, diagnose and treat diseases - from intelligently controlled prostheses to the regulation of blood sugar levels in diabetics.

Laboratory internships and practical phases support students in building methodological and systematic competencies. Group projects and seminars promote social and personal competence. A module on entrepreneurship provides basic knowledge for start-up companies in the life sciences. The THI cooperates with the Ingolstadt Clinic in order to enhance the practical relevance of the medical courses.

The course is part of the new field of study "Health/Life Sciences", with which the THI is expanding its portfolio of courses within the two thematic priorities of technology and health. The field of study "Health/Life Sciences" will be gradually established as a cross-sectional topic with new courses of study across all faculties. In 2030, around 1,250 students are expected to be enrolled in this field of study - specifically in five bachelor's degree courses followed by master's degree courses.

As engineers, computer scientists or economists, the interdisciplinary graduates of the new field of study combine a subject-specific qualification with basic medical training.
